Hampton Storm Spotters is a small group of volunteers supporting the Wakefield Virginia Weather Forecast Office (WFO). The storm spotter serves the community by participating in an organized effort to watch for storms approaching area and warns the community of threatening server weather and tornado formations. Even with the use of Doppler radar there is a need for spotters in the field. Radar can only detect the parent circulation that spawns tornados, information is needed whether a tornado is actually being producing and it's precise location. Storm spotters work together with local SKYWARN by reporting critical, real-time, ground observations to protect life and property of the local community.
